MrCorey -> I've briefly experimented with Ardour, but seeing as though I don't have a dedicated Linux setup, and, at least when I was using it Ardour focused more on recording and editing, rather than 'in-the-box-composing', I don't think I'll be switching anytime soon.

Also, I've amassed a fair number of (yes, paid-for) synth plugins that would all be for nothing if they wouldn't work in Ardour. I love *using* Logic, and therefore hate being systematically denied the pleasure.

Joel -> I've yet to use Ableton Live, but I keep hearing good/amazing things. However, I don't see any live playing plans in my future, so I don't believe I'll be experimenting with it just yet.

Oh man, I am so right there with you. There's no way I'm buying 9.0.0. And it's the no upgrades for Academic 8 that put a bee in my bonnet. That's garbage. (And counter-intuitive to the selling-crack-to-kids ethos that Apple seems to be going for with the student discounts.

Ouch, though! You've shelled out a fair amount. I only purchased Logic Studio Academic. It frustrates me that the most apparent "upgrade" is: LESS CORE OVERLOADS! Boo. That's what incremental bug fixes are for. (And because I... knock on Ikea pulp... haven't had many core overload problems, Logic 9 does not have a spot on my shopping list.

I'd much rather put that money into Ableton Studio! I need something for live performance (I'm putting together a duet project, and I need to get more nimble with my laptop live). I will get SO MUCH more bang for my buck by putting the L9 money into Ableton.

[I have been enjoying the show.] Rawk.

Had you considered trying Ardour? Its got a Mac port and you just might save yourself a big pile of dough. You get to pick whether or not you want to pay for it and how much, if you choose to pay.
