MISCELLANEOUS AUDIO PROJECTS
Full credits available on ‘Credits’ page.
CRSO-100 – Mock Radio Show
This was a class project during my second semester in Audio Engineering at the Centre for Arts and Technology. The criteria was to include a mock interview with a fictional ‘musician’ and a clip from his or her single. We aimed to create the worst rap song ever, and were told we succeeded with flying colours. Other requirements were to include a traffic report, a public service announcement, and a commercial, all original. This is a collaborative effort and credits can be seen on the Credits page.
Tarantella – played by James Gauthier
The aim of this project was to record our instructor, James Gauthier, playing a classical piece of his choosing on guitar. After multiple takes and errors, we were given the task of editing everything down to one perfect take with Pro Tools (LE version 6.9). Each student was responsible for taking notes as to where both errors and perfect passages ocurred, and was then in charge of his/her own edit, with the end product resulting in a natural-sounding recording. This is the full version of my edit.
Zom-Be-Gone (Mock Radio Ad)
Much like CRSO-100 above, we were given the task of writing, recording, editing, and producing our own mock radio ad. Much shorter than the fictional radio show, our ad for a local zombie-removal service was to be no longer than 29 seconds, a standard length for radio ad slots.
Becoming A God (Soundscape project)
This project involved choosing one illustration from Mike Bohatch’s website Eyes of Chaos (Warning: Explicit content) and developing a 5-minute soundscape inspired by it. As it was a soundscape, no melody, rhythm, or lyrics were to be written. In the production of this piece, I took many samples from Logic Pro 7’s EXS24 sound library and edited them to become near-unrecognizable. The siren sound was programmed using a Yamaha CS-15 monophonic synthesizer. Layered beneath the sound effects and siren is a full track of distorted guitar, modulated using plugins from both Logic and Pro Tools. This project is meant to be a sort of soundtrack to an illustration, and because of this, is best enjoyed while studying the image.
The illustration I chose to work with was ‘Becoming A God‘, pictured below.
‘Villain’ by Matthew Mcfarlane/The New Therapy
This project entailed recording, editing, and mixing one or more songs by a local artist. The artist I chose was The New Therapy, led by Matthew Mcfarlane.
